“The aroma of the forest that met me when I managed to return to my Apuan Alps for the first time,” is the answer given by Andrea Lanfri, Italian Paralympic athlete and mountaineer, when asked what moment he would cherish. This evocation gave rise to The Wanderer, a two-channel video installation by MASBEDO that transforms the athlete’s journey into a symbolic and inner voyage. Inspired by the myth of Lunia, goddess of the Apuan Alps and protector of travellers, the story is permeated by the presence of three spirits who inhabit trees, rocks and peaks, guardians of the memories of the woods and mountains of those people and animals that have passed through them. A soft, barely perceptible whisper accompanies Lanfri’s journey.
The text, written by Gianni Forte, brings to life his most intimate thoughts, where fragility is transformed into strength and nature into a space of metamorphosis and rebirth.
“L’odore del bosco che ho sentito quando per la prima volta sono riuscito a tornare sulle mie Alpi Apuane”, è la risposta di Andrea Lanfri, atleta paralimpico e alpinista italiano, alla domanda su quale momento avrebbe portato sempre con sé. Da questa suggestione prende forma The Wanderer [Il viandante] una videoinstallazione a due canali di MASBEDO che trasfigura il percorso dell’atleta in un viaggio simbolico e interiore. Ispirato al mito di Lunia, dea delle Apuane protettrice dei viandanti, il racconto è attraversato dalla presenza di tre spiriti che abitano alberi, rocce e cime, custodi della memoria dei boschi, delle montagne, degli uomini e degli animali che li hanno attraversati. Un sussurro dolce e appena percepibile accompagna il cammino di Lanfri. Il testo scritto da Gianni Forte evoca i suoi pensieri più intimi, dove la fragilità si trasforma in forza e la natura in spazio di metamorfosi e di rinascita.
