Filmmaker 2024

We are very happy to announce that MASBEDO, the artistic duo formed by Nicolò Massazza and Iacopo Bedogni, will be present at Filmmaker 2024 in a double capacity. Indeed, arriving with our festival is the first Milanese screening of Pantelleria, their two-year work alongside the inhabitants of the Sicilian island in search of the relationship and balance between historical memory, filmic memory, mise-en-scene, cinema and war.

It was 1945 when Pantelleria was repeatedly bombed by Allied forces in what was called the first phase of the attack on fascist Italy. The bombing, however, continued well after the signing of the armistice: it was used for the filming of propaganda material and victory celebrations. What remained of this violent and destructive distortion in the island’s present? And in the memory of its inhabitants? Bedogni and Massazza have tried to weave a plot in whose warp the many versions of History meet: the official, handed down one, and its backstories.

Along with the Pantelleria screening, MASBEDO will then present the works made during “Getting Lost in the Expanded,” a workshop course conducted under their curatorship and which at FMK2024 becomes a special section. A project promoted by the Civica Scuola Cinema “Luchino Visconti,” Careof and Filmmaker in which twelve artists – Giuseppe Caponio, Marika Cecalupo, Stefano De Felici, Nicola di Chio, Miriam Gili, Nicoletta Grillo, Pedro Pablo Hernandez De Obeso.
